Covering public safety, courts, features, business and general assignment. Duties include breaking news and investigative pieces on crime, police con- duct and court proceedings. Covered unsolved disappearance of 10-year-old Lindsey Baum and rapid development of the Port of Grays Harbor. Responsibilities also include working as half-time photographer-videographer and managing breaking news social media.
Covered city government and business for West Plains edition of weekly Voices section. Profiled political candidates for West Plains elections and wrote various features and business stories.
Spent four years with student newspaper for Washington State University in a number of positions ranging from reporter to editor. Covered public safety and court issues for two years, including investigation into misconduct by the campus police that resulted in demotion of chief. Also covered university administration, shot photos and video, launched multimedia desk and hosted weekly news radio program.
Covered city government, crime and business in and around the city of Cheney, which included some coverage of Eastern Washington University. Also assisted with photography and page layout.

2nd Place — Investigative Reporting: Explored how multiple inspections missed severe damage to a primary bridge through town, which eventually shutdown for emergency repairs.
2nd Place — Crime and Justice Reporting: Comprehensive story on disappearance and search for 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, who went missing in McCleary, Wash., in 2009.
